The Blue Crew Welcomes Two New Teammates
Last year, Nolan and his Blue Crew raised over $5000 in their first year walking in support of Breakthrough T1D. This year, the Blue Crew is back and we have drafted two new members to our team to join Nolan in this fight…
On Monday, April 1st, the Blue Crew drafted Ava (Nolan’s cousin) when she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 10. Ava is the sweetest, kindest, gentlest, but fiercist T1D warrior out there. She has taken her diagnosis in stride and won’t let it get in the way of living her best life. She loves volleyball, softball, and just being a normal kid. Those of us that know and love Ava know she is anything but normal - rock star & super hero are two adjectives that are more appropriate to describe this girl! A huge shout out to Ava’s T1D support system for helping her navigate her new normal. Welcome to the Blue Crew Ava!
On Tuesday, July 2nd, the Blue Crew drafted Sarah (Nolan’s mom; Ava’s aunt) when she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 38. Sarah is the glue that holds the Blue Crew together. Not only has she been a stand-in for Nolan’s pancreas, but she has helped Ava and her support system with their adjustment to their new normal. She now faces her own failing pancreas with a condition called Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), a form of Type 1 diabetes that Breakthrough T1D is working to learn more about. Sarah is a fighter and a fierce advocate for those living with autoimmune conditions. Welcome to the Blue Crew Sarah!
The truth is, nobody really wanted to join the Blue Crew. But life will always throw curves. Nolan, Ava, & Sarah are waiting for their pitch and are ready to hit a home run when it comes. Please join us in supporting Breakthrough T1D as they realize their vision of a world without T1D. Thank you for your support!
