Twenty-six years ago, our mother Chaka was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, a devastating autoimmune disease that attacked her pancreas, making it unable to produce insulin. Without insulin, her body cannot process food. Type 1 diabetes means thousands of blood sugar checks and shots of insulin. She faces the threat of long-term complications including blindness, nerve damage, and even death.
We show our support for her by supporting Breakthrough T1D, formerly JDRF, which funds research toward a cure to ensure our mom lives a healthy life, overcoming the daily challenges from her diabetes. In fact, our mom now wears technology that helps keep her blood sugar in range, especially while she sleeps. This life-changing technology would not have been possible without so many of you supporting Breakthrough T1D.
This year, our mom is leading our walk team, “Team Diabetic Social,” to raise funds to help create a world without type 1 diabetes. Thank you so much for your support this event has helped us raise over $218,000 collectively in the past! This incredible support makes a tangible dierence.
Thank you for supporting our mom and millions of others like her!
