T1D is an autoimmune disease that is diagnosed in both children and adults and has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Managing T1D requires constant attention and action—including overnight. Even with a strict regimen, people with T1D can still experience dangerously high or low blood sugar that can lead to complications and, in extreme cases, be life-threatening.

After the Walk, walkers are encouraged to stay to enjoy lunch, entertainment and event activities. The Walk will conclude at 12:30 p.m. We look forward to spending the morning with you.

The Breakthrough T1D Walk takes place rain or shine. Please watch the forecast and dress accordingly.

PARKING
There are two paid parking lots near the Walk site. One directly across the street and one just north at the NW corner of Wilson Ave and Simonds Dr. These lots are operated by SP+ Parking and cost $6.35 for 4 hours.

Metered street parking is available on Simonds Drive from Montrose Avenue north to Foster Avenue. Parking costs $2.25/hour and the parking meter boxes are along Montrose Harbor Drive near the Montrose Bird Sanctuary, and the section of Lawrence Avenue that runs past the Montrose dog beach, or your can pay using the ParkChicago app. We encourage you to download the ParkChicago app in advance of arriving at the Walk.

T1D PARTICIPANTS
Individuals with T1D, make sure to check in at the T1D Hub (Tent #10 on the Site Map) to pick up your T1D Identifier ahead of the T1D Warriors parade.

THE T1D WARRIORS PARADE
The T1D Warriors Parade is a celebration of the strength and determination of everyone who lives with type 1 diabetes. We invite all of our T1D Warriors to join us for a parade through the Walk site at 9:30 a.m. All T1D Walkers should gather at the Ford Photo Area on the South end of the site. 9:15 a.m. LOOK FOR RUFUS!

LUNCH
Buona is once again serving up lunch to all Breakthrough T1D participants! When you finish your Walk, you will be able to enjoy a delicious Italian beef or Italian plant-based beef sandwich along with chips and soda/water with your team while you enjoy music DJ’d by GAC Entertainment. This is a wonderful Breakthrough T1D Walk tradition you won't want to miss!

ACTIVITIES
We can’t wait for a family-friendly day with you all. Activities include inflatables, professional facepainting, a balloon twister, Marvel characters, the Ford photo area, team sign decorating, and many wonderful vendors to visit in our “Resource Row.”

WALK ROUTE
The route is a 1.5 Mi loop north of the event site and will take you along beautiful Lake Michigan. View the route map here.

ACCESSIBILITY AND SERVICE ANIMALS
Please note that this site is on grass pavement. There are handicap accessible access points to the event site and along the Walk path.
