Let's Make T1D History!

That Day:
Weight lost yet eating more than ever,
Thirsty, so thirsty.
Go to doctor have some test.
Go home, phone ringing, go back to doctor.
Finger poke, then the news; Type 1 diabetes.
Get to the hospital immediately!
Scared, nervous, strong on the outside.
Stay 5 days getting healthy, learning.
Sent home with bags and bags of supplies.
Overwhelmed, nervous, stayed strong.

When I wrote this my heart was racing as it did that day in February, 18 years ago. I told my daughter, Briana, if I could take this disease out of her and put it in me I would in a second . But since that was not possible she had to learn everything the nurses where teaching us so she could live independently and take care of herself. We are so proud of her for doing just that! Don’t get me wrong, she has had bad days along with the good ones. Days she wanted to pretend she didn’t have type 1. But through it all she did everything she could to learn to take care of herself and become independent. She is now married and has a 15 month old son. For the second year I will ride for my beautiful, brave daughter Briana and my strong, brave nephew Hunter.

The 100 mile ride starts in La Crosse Wisconsin on Saturday August 3rd. We will ride across three states (Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa), two bridges, and one mighty River. I am looking forward to riding with Briana and her husband Jon, my favorite SIL, who have done this several times.

JDRF is leading the fight against Type 1 diabetes by funding research, advocating for policies that accelerate access to new therapies, and providing a support network for millions of people around the world impacted by Type 1. But they can’t do it without our support.

If you can help me reach my fundraising goal I would appreciate it. No donation is too small and every dollar truly makes a difference. If you prefer not to donate online reach out to me and I can help with that. I will also take all the prayers I can get for strength and safety as we train and ride the 100 miles on ride day.

Thank you for your support, I truly appreciate it ❤
