What is Breakthrough T1D™ Your Way?

Breakthrough T1D Your Way lets you put your time, talent and creativity to work to help create a world without type 1 diabetes. You name it. We support you. Whether it's through a special occasion, athletic event, memorial—or your own unique fundraising campaign—Breakthrough T1D gives you all the tools and tips you need to raise money—your way—for T1D research.

What are the benefits to starting a fundraising campaign benefiting Breakthrough T1D?

The amazing fundraising tools that you'll receive when you sign up include:

  • Your own fundraising page to share your personal story, photos/video and details about your fundraiser.
  • A private dashboard that gives you a quick look at your fundraising progress and coaches you on how to be successful.
  • Message templates and images to help you craft emails and social media posts asking for support.
  • The ability to collect donations through a variety of methods, including credit cards and PayPal.
  • Downloadable resources to support your campaign.

How do I learn more about Breakthrough T1D and the research I'm helping to fund?

Are there any guidelines or policies on managing fundraising events?

Yes. We have a guideline and policy document that can give you information about using the Breakthrough T1D brand, in-kind donation management, liability insurance and more. You can read it here.

Registration

How do I get started?

  • If you have a Breakthrough T1D username/password log in to your Participant Center.
  • If you do not have a Breakthrough T1D username/password it's time to create one.
  • How do I know if I already have a username/password?
    • To retrieve your login information, visit this page. Under the LOG IN button, there is a "Forgot Username or Password" link that will assist you in retrieving this information.

What if I've forgotten my username and password?

You can follow this link to request your password now. You'll then receive an email with your login information.

How do I change my account information such as email address, username, etc.?

First, log in using your current username and password. After logging in, you will see your name at the top of the page. Click on your name and you will see the option to "Edit profile". In your profile, you will be able to change your contact information, email address, username and password. All saved changes will be made immediately.

Is there a registration fee or fundraising minimum requirement?

No. Creating a fundraising campaign is free and open to anyone, anywhere! The average fundraiser is raising approximately $1500, with fundraising goals ranging from $500 to $100,000! We encourage you to set a goal that feels right to you. You can always adjust it along the way!

Is there an age requirement to register?

Yes. The age minimum to register a fundraising campaign is 13 years old. However, parents are more than welcome to set up a campaign on behalf of their children and recognize them as the fundraisers.

I want to participate in a local endurance event that is not affiliated with Breakthrough T1D. Can I still fundraise on behalf of Breakthrough T1D?

Absolutely! You can easily create an athletic event fundraising page to collect donations to help Breakthrough T1D fund T1D research.

How much time do I have to commit?

It's completely up to you! Participants spend anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours updating their fundraising page with photos and stories, sending emails to friends and family and planning their events.

Fundraising

Are donations to my campaign tax-deductible?

Every person who makes an online donation will receive an automated email acknowledgment for tax purposes. And, don't forget to send personal thank-you messages to all of your supporters!

What do I do with cash or checks I receive?

Please convert cash donations to checks and send them to your chapter office along with your completed Donation Submission Form. To download this form and for more details, please log in and click the Log Cash / Checks button on your "Donors" page.

Can I be reimbursed for event expenses?

Breakthrough T1D cannot reimburse you for your fundraising expenses. To keep your expenses down, consider asking local businesses for in-kind donations in exchange for advertising on flyers, brochures, letters, t-shirts and other event materials. Because in-kind donations to your event do not directly benefit Breakthrough T1D, we are unable provide tax receipts for these contributions.

How can I see who has donated to my event?

You can see who has donated to your campaign by logging in to your Participant Center and selecting the donor tab.

Do you accept matching corporate donations?

Yes, many employers offer matching gift programs and will match the charitable contributions or volunteer hours made by their employees. Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, please click here.

Can I purchase official Breakthrough T1D merchandise to support my fundraiser?

Absolutely! Official Breakthrough T1D merchandise can be purchased on our Breakthrough T1D Store.

Can I use the To Benefit Breakthrough T1D logo on my materials?

The To Benefit Breakthrough T1D logo is available to download from the "Tips & Tools" tab of your Participant Center. For more information, please consult our logo guidelines which can also be found in your Participant Center.

What support do you offer for fundraising events?

Although Breakthrough T1D staff members are unable to attend your event, we're here to coach you with great fundraising and event tips. If you'd like some advice on a specific challenge you are having, please reach out to your local chapter, or email us at fundraising@BreakthroughT1D.org.

Can the money raised from my campaign be credited to my Breakthrough T1D Walk, Breakthrough T1D Ride or Breakthrough T1D Run fundraiser?

Absolutely! First, you must be registered for the event you want all funds be credited to. Then when you create your Breakthrough T1D Your Way fundraiser, there will be an option to select that event as an alternative to setting a fundraising goal.
