My name is Cindy Hock-Lauwers, founder and designer of Shimmer by Cindy, a jewelry brand based outside of Chicago. I’m also a wife, mother, grandmother, and a Type 1 Diabetic. My unexpected journey with diabetes began on July 4, 2021, my world turned upside down when I was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 50. A seemingly healthy individual, I had no family history of Type 1 Diabetes. The initial shock and disbelief quickly gave way to a new reality, marked by constant finger pricks, insulin injections, and a steep learning curve.

As I adjusted to this new normal, I realized that I had a choice: to let diabetes define me, or to let it empower me. I chose the latter. I turned my challenge into an opportunity to make a difference, and I expanded my Shimmer for the Cure Initiative which I founded in 2007 to bring awareness to Breast Cancer, to now include Diabetes. Last November I launched my Skyline Royale Collection, designed in the vibrant shade of blue and created a collection to be more than just jewelry; I wanted it to be a conversation starter, a symbol of hope and a catalyst for positive change.

As I delved deeper into the world of diabetes, I sought out a partner who shared my passion for making a difference. Breakthrough T1D emerged as the clear choice. Their unwavering commitment to research and patient care aligns perfectly with my vision for the Shimmer for the Cure initiative and this is why I committed to donating 25% of the profits year-round from my Skyline Royale Collection to them to help fund their mission. I'm proud to partner with an organization that is truly making a difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes.

Today, I stand as a testament to the strength of the human spirit. I've learned to navigate the complexities of diabetes as best I can, balancing my health with my passions. I'm committed to using my platform to inspire others, to break down stereotypes, and to advocate for a future where diabetes is no longer a barrier to living a full and fulfilling life.
